Portaleone, Abraham ben David
(1542-1612)
   Italian physician and author. He graduated from the University of Pavia in 1563, and later served as physician to the ducal house there. In 1591 he was given papal authorization to attend Christian patients. He wrote a Latin work containing guidance for physicians, and a study of the applications of gold in medicine. His Shields of the Mighty is a study of the Temple and its service.
